Charlotte Douglas International Airport Master Water Meters

STV performed a hydraulic study and water model to investigate inadequate water pressure in one of Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s terminal concourses. As recommended by the study, STV designed two new 12-inch master water meters with dual 10-inch backflows to increase the water pressure to the airport concourses. This allowed for the removal of 20 existing water meters and backflows and resulted in an instant increase in water pressure for airport customers, tenants, and employees. The increased water pressure improved fire protection for the area as the airport continues to grow. In addition, two hydrants that were added for industrial purposes can be used for additional fire protection if needed. The consolidation into two master meters simplified the billing with Charlotte Water.

STV also performed traffic control and erosion control design for this project, which was part of Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s $2.5-$3.1 billion capital investment program.
