2As some regions of the country open, businesses face the unprecedented challenge of how to safely operate amidst social distancing, face mask use, travel restrictions, and employee concerns. To help guide businesses and workers in the design and construction industries, David Kliwinski, CSP, STV chief health and safety officer, and Douglas Glorie, P.E., CIH, LEED AP, senior project manager, have joined a nine-member safety committee established by the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC NY) to develop guidelines, best practices, and worksite checklists.

David has more than 30 years of experience as a certified safety professional and pairs his experience with an extensive network of industry leaders in developing recommendations for ACEC NY’s safety guidelines. He also serves on STV’s own COVID-19 leadership committee.

Doug has an extensive background in microbial investigations, asbestos remediation and other hazardous materials, and urges that all safety recommendations be easily understood. He has provided detailed information on the types, effectiveness and proper use of different facemasks and respirators and developed an easy-to-use safety checklist for building and site managers.

The committee compiled recommendations from sources such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and state and local health agencies on issues including personal protective equipment (PPE) in the office and at job sites, reducing workspace density, and facility sanitation and hygiene.
