P.S. 95Q Addition

STV was contracted by the New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) to provide architectural and engineering design services for the expansion of P.S. 95Q, the Eastwood School, in Jamaica, Queens. A new addition, as well as renovations to the existing building, will provide this Pre-K-5 elementary school with programs that meet NYCSCA educational standards.

The 40,510-square-foot addition will include a new entrance and lobby as well as classrooms on four levels. The design can accommodate 229 students and incorporates specialized teaching spaces such as a dance studio, music room, and art rooms, in addition to traditional classrooms. The building also features a new kitchen and cafeteria designed to serve 882 students across three lunch periods. Renovations to the existing building include new electrical systems, fire alarm replacement, and program accessibility upgrades.

The new addition aims to enhance P.S. 95Q as a community asset and provide programs that foster teaching and learning. The design prioritizes the integration of ample daylight and emphasizes safety and security to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere for students. Sustainable design solutions have been incorporated to align with the NYCSCA’s Green Schools Guide. The new building is all-electric and features a green roof to support stormwater management.
