MARC Riverside Heavy Maintenance Facility

The MARC (Maryland Area Regional Commuter) Riverside Heavy Maintenance Facility was designed to support maintenance functions for MARC’s new Siemens Chargers, which require high spatial clearance and specialized industrial equipment not previously available in existing facilities within the commuter rail system’s Riverside Yard.

The new 32,113-square-foot facility incorporates a wheel truing machine, a drop table machine, and a 30-ton overhead crane. It utilizes high quality, durable, long-lasting materials and finishes to aid in creating a sufficient lifespan for the building. The modern design incorporates structural steel framing, daylighting, and sustainability elements. Innovative design solutions minimize costs and maximize space utilization.

STV served as the lead designer for the Construction Manager-at-Risk (CMAR), providing architectural, structural, industrial, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, communications, civil, landscape architecture, utility, stormwater management, geotechnical, and hazardous waste removal services. The $48.3 million project was completed as part of an on-call services contract with the MDOT MTA.
