Wilmington Global Innovation Center at The DuPont Experimental Station

The DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE, is one of the world’s first industrial research and development facilities, with more than 50 buildings and 2,770,000 square feet of research space. To build upon its existing hub, E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company selected STV to provide architectural and engineering design services for their Wilmington Global Innovation Center (WGIC) that transformed existing facilities at the campus. The new center includes conference spaces, break-out rooms, display spaces, collaboration laboratories, innovation offices, and a fitness center.

The firm was responsible for programming support, preliminary design, final design, and post-design services. The project also included landscaping and outdoor amenities. Adding to the complexity of this design was the decision to change the program mid-stream from a campus Town Center to the reimagined WGIC space. This required the inclusion of a third-floor office suite for the science and technology users group, extensive HVAC re-design to support the new renovations, and as well as the design for stair towers and elevator modifications. Today, the WGIC stands as the corporate blueprint for all other innovation centers at DuPont campuses across the globe.
