Valley Region Elementary School #13

The Valley Region Elementary School #13 was developed to relieve overcrowding in Panorama City, CA. The Los Angeles Unified School District tasked STV with providing schematic through final architectural and engineering design for the 60,111-square-foot-building. The new facility includes 38 classrooms, a kitchen and cafeteria, a library, administrative offices, and a multipurpose room.

A key element of this project was the building’s sustainable design. The L-shaped complex is situated to minimize western exposure, thus reducing energy costs. Roof overhangs provide shade and walkways are covered, minimizing heat island effects. Other sustainability measures include water reuse for landscaping, natural ventilation, the use of recycled materials, and high-rated air filters. The project earned LEED Gold© certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
