U.S. Coast Guard Houston-Galveston Sector Building

Hurricane Ike caused massive flooding in a swath stretching from the Florida Panhandle to the Texas coast. Among the casualties of the storm was the Sector Field Office of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in Galveston, which sustained substantial structural damage.

STV served as the designer of record to Mortenson Construction, as part of a design-build contract, for a new four-story, $42 million the USCG Sector Field Office, which was relocated to a 19.7-acre site in Houston. The firm provided civil, landscape, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical design services. Revit 3-D BIM software was used in the design.

The 111,500-square-foot building includes office and training spaces, command centers, a data center, medical and dental facilities, shops, berthing rooms, a cafeteria, a fitness center, and support spaces.

It also meets the requirements of Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection and was designed to achieve LEED® Silver certification.
