Tyrone Bridge Replacements

STV is providing engineering design and environmental services on behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) for safety improvements of two bridges in Tyrone, PA.

The first structure is a 40-foot long concrete bridge that carries SR 4027 over the Hutchinson Run stream. STV evaluated alternatives for a new proposed bridge and roadway approach that will maintain the width and structure type of the existing bridge. The new structure will include 11-foot lanes, a center turning lane, and new shoulders.

The second bridge is a 21-ft single span slab structure that brings SR 4029 over Sink Run Stream. STV proposed designs for additional structural replacements, as well as widening the shoulders. The firm is coordinating with local emergency services, businesses, and school districts, along with PennDOT, to provide ADA-compliant pedestrian access to the bridge once it is completed including connecting with a sidewalk.

The firm is also providing environmental permitting services to mitigate impacts to the area and is overseeing subsurface utility engineering investigations. Significant utility and adjacent property owner access coordination was required at both sites to facilitate construction.
