P.S. 254K Addition with Gymnatorium

P.S. 254 in Brooklyn’s Sheepshead Bay neighborhood provides students from Pre-K to 5th grade a space to learn. To help this facility provide more educational and community resources, STV was tasked by the New York City School Construction Authority to perform engineering and architectural design services in support of this $46 million project.

STV’s design scope encompasses 44,000 square feet, and includes a one-story expansion for the existing cafeteria, a new four-story addition and facility renovations. The new structure will house additional classrooms and a “gymnatorium” for physical activities, performances and assemblies. Due to the school’s location within a flood zone, the addition will feature a raised first floor for flood protection. The firm’s design features plenty of natural light to create a warm and welcoming environment for students, teachers, and visitors, while meeting modern safety and New York City Green School Guide requirements
