Key Highway at Light Street Intersection Improvements

As part of a task order contract with the City of Baltimore Department of Transportation, STV provided engineering design services for the Key Highway at Light Street Intersection Improvements project. STV’s team provided final design of the roadway realignment project, which improved motorist, pedestrian, and bicycle safety at the busy intersection.

Located adjacent to the Maryland Science Center, the Key Highway at Light Street intersection connects the Inner Harbor to the adjacent Federal Hill community. The scope of work entailed designing signal upgrades, the reconstruction of sidewalks to comply with ADA requirements, and improvements to existing utility assets. Storm water management improvements, micro-bioretention facilities, pavement removal and greening activities were all incorporated into new landscaping improvements throughout the corridor. Additionally, a separate pedestrian and bike trail was added along the project limits. This trailway connects to a section of the East Coast Greenway, a walking and biking route that stretches 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida.
