Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Support
To make its transit system more resilient against climate change, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Department of Energy and Environment selected STV to provide on-call planning, design, and policy support as part of a General Engineering Contract. The firm is assessing operational and safety risks to better protect core assets against storms and flooding and improve emergency response procedures in 176 communities.
STV’s evaluation of the MBTA’s infrastructure will identify potential hazards and develop strategies for repairs, upgrades, and other adaptations. The firm is gathering data for a vulnerability assessment of the MBTA’s power, signals, and communications systems on the Red, Orange, Green, and Blue rapid transit lines, as well as the Silver Line bus rapid transit system. A system-wide screening report will be developed to identify potential risks for each asset, with a prioritization evaluation to recommend next steps.
