Andrew Jackson Houses Electrical Feeder Replacement Project
The Andrew Jackson Houses is a complex consisting of seven affordable housing buildings in the Bronx, New York. Originally, electrical power was supplied to the buildings from one central location through a high-voltage loop. Following a fire and subsequent power outages, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) elected to update the power network by providing independent power to each building. STV acted as an intermediary between NYCHA and the utility companies, conducting resident outreach, and coordinating construction activities related to any exterior excavation that was required to support these power system upgrades.
The project will outfit each building’s electrical room with new cables, conduits, and electrical cabinets, which will be installed on concrete pads to extend the equipment’s longevity. STV provided NYCHA with recommendations to reduce generator costs during construction due to utility delays in providing permanent power.
