STV provided construction management services to the New Jersey Schools Development Authority for the Dr. Hani Awadallah Elementary School. Part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to improve facilities and alleviate overcrowding for the city’s school district, the new school seats 650 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. It houses an academic wing/media center, central wing with classrooms and administration, and a third wing with a gymnasium and cafetorium.

As construction was underway and while maintaining the project schedule, STV collaborated with the project team to have key elements of the original design, such as the HVAC and the building information technology systems, redesigned to current standards. Additionally, STV worked with the contractor to make sure the project’s one-of-a-kind pedestrian bridge spanning adjacent, active rail lines was installed in three-and-a-half hours overnight without disrupting NJ TRANSIT’s commuter schedule or incurring complaints from the community. South Paterson students safely crossed the bridge to attend their first classes when the new 21st-century school opened.
