Development and Procurement of the ALP-45DP Dual-Powered Locomotive
The ALP-45DP is a first-of-a-kind locomotive in North America that offers NJ TRANSIT in New Jersey and Agence Métropolitaine de Transport (AMT) in Montreal the opportunity to change the way thousands of commuters use mass transportation every day. By being able to run on either diesel power or overhead catenary electric power, this locomotive offers more flexibility and operational efficiency than its predecessors.
STV provided design, inspection, testing and other engineering support services for the procurement of 35 dual-powered locomotives for NJ TRANSIT and 20 locomotives for AMT. The locomotive, debuted first in New Jersey, can achieve speeds as high as 100 miles per hour in diesel mode and 125 miles per hour in electric mode while producing less noise and exhaust than its predecessors.
