Salt Lake City University Light Rail Transit Line

To meet the transportation needs of the 2002 Winter Olympics, as well as the long-term needs of Salt Lake City, UT, the Utah Transit Authority initiated a fast-track, design-build project for a 2.5-mile-long light rail transit extension from the Delta Center (now Vivint Smart Home Arena) to Rice-Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah. As a member of the joint venture design team, STV provided complete design, design support and construction management services for the track alignment and four new stations.

The $148.5 million project was completed within budget and three months ahead of schedule. The joint venture designed the light rail extension in a compressed six-month time frame to enable the start of service before the opening ceremonies. In 2011, the line was integrated in to the transit authority's Transit Express Red Line service as part of a system redesign.
