The debut of the M-7 electrical multiple-unit commuter rail car, marked a huge upgrade for riders using the Long Island Railroad and Metro-North Railroad in New York, two of the largest commuter rail operators in the country. STV, as a subconsultant, oversaw procurement management activities, providing engineering, quality assurance, and administrative services in support of LIRR/Metro-North's acquisition of more than 1,110 M-7s. These vehicles feature significant technological differences from their predecessors and contain such advanced amenities as the extensive use of microprocessor controls, unititized rooftop air conditioning and an automatic passenger announcement/information system.
