Cornell University Fine Arts Library Renovation
Cornell University is undergoing a campaign to improve its academic facilities. As part of that initiative, the university is transforming Rand Hall into the School of Art, Architecture, and Planning’s permanent research library. STV is serving as the architect and engineer of record for the $13 million project, which will renovate and expand the venerable brick building into a 21st century fine arts library that achieves LEED® Silver certification.
The conceptual plan, developed by renowned architect Wolfgang Tschapeller, inserts four vertically stacked mezzanines into the existing volume of the building, suspended from a new roof structure. The project will leave the entire main floor free for reading, research, and collaboration. The book stacks will create enough space for a 120,000-volume book collection.
