As the fastest-growing commuter rail system in the country, the Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is expanding and standardizing its rail fleet by adding a new generation of commuter rail cars. VRE retained STV, under a mechanical engineering consultant services task order contract, to provide assistance on various projects including engineering for commuter rail car procurement.

Under the current contract, STV formulated a specification and provided bid support and procurement inspection and testing for the new multi-level rail cars. The firm then provided full design review, test oversite, inspection and commissioning services.
