George Karnoutsos Arts and Sciences Hall, New Jersey City University (Jersey City, NJ)
As part of a long-range program to make the campus more functional and attractive, STV, in association with Michael Graves & Associates, designed a new Arts and Sciences building and tower for New Jersey City University. More than simply new housing for academic facilities, the tower is a distinct, iconic architectural statement in keeping with the master plan for the campus. The 80,900-square-foot, six-story tower houses administrative offices for the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs, an audio production lab, a dance studio and faculty offices. This $21.6 million project won an Education Design Excellence award in the American School & University Architectural Portfolio of 2003 Outstanding Buildings: Work in Progress category.
