SEPTA Silverliner V Regional Rail Cars Procurement (Philadelphia, PA)
STV provided the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) with project management, engineering and quality assurance to support the acquisition of 120 new regional rail cars. The first of the Silverliner V cars were delivered to SEPTA in late 2010. The carshells were manufactured in Changwon, South Korea, while final assembly took place at a new facility in Philadelphia. The rail cars incorporate state-of-the-art propulsion, communications, door control and cab signal technology and are fully ADA-compliant. The vehicles have improved acceleration and higher maximum speeds, which enable SEPTA to reduce trip times and dispatch fewer vehicles to move the same amount of people. The new cars are equipped with quarter point doors that can be converted from high to low platform boarding, improving passenger flow. They are the first new commuter vehicles procured by SEPTA since the 1980s.
