StructuralPMLD Wind Energy Project (Princeton, MA)
To help reduce energy costs for town residents by generating more energy from a renewable source, Princeton Municipal Light Department (PMLD) erected two 1.5MW wind turbines on Wachusett Mountain. Each turbine has a 65-meter tower hub height and 77-meter rotor diameter. STV designed the turbine foundations and rock anchors, provided specifications and drawings and engineering consulting services as part of a design-build team. PMLD distributes approximately 8 million kWh purchased from National Grid through its distribution network annually. These turbines generate approximately 6 million kWh (75%) of this annual demand. STV provided unique solutions to siting the two wind turbines on the project site to take advantage of the predominant wind direction, allow for construction of access roads and provide staging and lay down areas for construction.
