Architectural DesignMarine Science Consortium Campus (Wallops Island, VA)
STV designed a 30-acre, $15 million modern campus for the Marine Science Consortium, which provides educational programs and classes focused on coastal and marine environments. STV designed seven buildings for the campus, including residence halls, staff housing, and an administrative building. A 23,000-sf LEED Certified Environmental Learning Center serves as the “front door” to the complex, and its glass entrance tower gives the facility a recognizable profile. The Environmental Learning Center houses wet laboratories, three classrooms, a computer classroom, an outdoor teaching pavilion, a bookstore and administrative offices. The seven new buildings replaced old World War II Naval barracks that had been used since the Consortium moved to the island in 1971.
