Temple Street Bridge Rehabilitation (New Haven, CT)
STV provided preliminary and final design, surveying services, bid phase services, construction administration and resident engineering for the rehabilitation of Temple Street Bridge, located in the middle of Yale University. The bridge carries Temple Street, a busy urban arterial, over the old Farmington River Canal Railroad, which has been converted to a pedestrian/bikeway.
The firm improved the aesthetics by recreating the historic character of the structure, as the walls, parapets and abutments utilized existing and new stone work, and new concrete abutment walls were patterned and colored to match existing walls. Utility lines that once ran above ground along the parapets were relocated and hung beneath the bridge deck.
