StructuralFulton Span High School #9 (Los Angeles, CA)
The Los Angeles Unified School District selected STV to provide architectural and engineering design services, construction documents and construction support for the addition of 30 classrooms, a new gymnasium and a library for a joint middle school and high school. The project also included remodeling the existing central kitchen, as well as adding a new track and soccer field to the existing fields. Because the client intends to pursue CHPS certification (a green building rating program especially designed for K-12 schools), STV incorporated many sustainable elements into its design, including reflective roof surfaces, daylighting for the classrooms, super efficient HVAC units, lighting controls, high efficiency lighting systems, operable windows for natural ventilation, waterless urinals and drought tolerant plantings/landscaping.
