Bridges | Design and ConstructionOkeechobee Road/Miami Canal Bridge (Hialeah, FL)
Florida Department of Transportation’s Okeechobee Road depressed section design-build project beneath the Florida East Coast Railroad (FEC) tracks in Hialeah, FL, a Miami suburb, significantly improved traffic flow along the corridor. The project included a new double-track railroad bridge, which allowed the FEC railway to construct a second set of tracks to improve rail service through the area. STV/RWA designed the 300-foot FEC railroad bridge, which traverses Okeechobee Road and Miami Canal. Other improvements included: a new storm water drainage system, traffic signals, street lights and sidewalks. The $35 million project was completed more than one month ahead of schedule.
