Architectural DesignP.S. 14 Restoration and Rehabilitation (Queens, NY)
STV was retained by the New York City School Construction Authority to serve as architect and engineer for the $7.5 million restoration, preservation and rehabilitation of the exteriors of P.S. 14. The four-story Victorian Gothic 1914 building received additions in 1928 and 1994. Because the school is designated an official state landmark, the proposed scope of work required approval from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. The project included demolition and reconstruction of the crenellated solid brick and terracotta parapet walls to match the exterior appearance of the original design and removal and replacement of 378 existing original oversize wood double-hung windows with historically accurate custom-fabricated wood windows.
