StructuralP.S. 1 Restoration and Rehabilitation (Staten Island, NY)
STV served as the lead architect and engineer for a $1.5 million historically accurate repair and restoration of one of P.S. 1’s two buildings. The two-and-a-half-story 1878 building had severe structural and construction defects discovered during a larger overall exterior rehabilitation of both buildings. The project scope included the removal, redesign and reconstruction of an elaborate custom fabricated exterior wood and copper cornice with steel reinforced wood brackets that are both structural and decorative. The cornice conceals a poured reinforced concrete ring beam inserted to replace original rotted wood bearing plates.
