STV was instrumental in obtaining development plan approval for the historic renovation of the American Can Company factory on Baltimore’s waterfront. The site consisted of two major industrial buildings and a connecting structure, which formerly housed the company’s boiler house. The total floor area being renovated into a retail and office center was 195,000 sf. The firm had to work within the constraints of both an Urban Renewal Plan and a Planned Unit Development in finalizing the engineering documents for the 5.5-acre site. This was the first project completed under the new brownfields legislation of Maryland’s nationally acclaimed Smart Growth initiative.
