U.S. 220 (Future I-73) Improvements (Rockingham County, NC)
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) commissioned the construction of an interstate from Michigan to Myrtle Beach, SC. Rather than create a new interstate, it was more feasible to upgrade existing roads to interstate standards. NCDOT selected this 11-mile section of US 220 to be upgraded to be part of the future I-73. STV/RWA provided total design services for this project, including roadway design, bridge design, drainage and hydraulics, surveying, bridge scour studies, traffic control design and minor drainage structures sizing. The project consisted of widening the 11-mile section from two lanes to four. STV/RWA provided evaluation and design services for the ramps for four interchanges at primary and secondary off-roads.
