Rail Transportation | Transportation and Environmental PlanningEast Side Access (New York, NY)
STV has been playing a key role in the East Side Access project, whose goal is to ease congestion at New York’s Penn Station by bringing Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) service to Grand Central Terminal on Manhattan’s East Side. LIRR hired the firm early in the project to conduct an operational and physical feasibility study as well as a Major Investment Study to enable the project to receive FTA funding. In joint venture, STV is also providing tunnel engineering, environmental and other final design services to connect the nation's busiest commuter rail line to the new LIRR terminal below Grand Central. The new connection will dramatically shorten travel time for Long Island and Queens commuters traveling to the east side of Manhattan. Scheduled for completion in 2019, the project has an estimated cost of $8.24 billion.
