Architectural Design  World Trade Center Transportation Hub (New York, NY)

As an integral part of the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and the revitalization of Lower Manhattan, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub is one of New York City’s most important and visible transportation infrastructure projects. The Downtown Design Partnership (DDP) provided architectural and engineering design services for the Hub. The DDP, which was contracted by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey in 2003, consists of the STV/AECOM joint venture, in association with Parsons Transportation Group and Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The Hub serves as a 21st century, state-of-the-art transit center, housing Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) service while also connecting to 11 different subway lines. The main transit hall, dubbed the Oculus, is comparable in size to Grand Central Terminal’s main pedestrian area.
