Architectural Design9th Precinct Building (Manhattan, NY)
This Depression-era building no longer met the needs of a 21st century police precinct; although the neo-classical façade was much revered as a neighborhood icon as well as an image often repeated in a television series. STV created a facilities program and designed a new replacement building with appropriate security systems, energy-efficient equipment and new life safety systems. A contemporary two-story lobby provides the interface between the police and the public. The original façade was disassembled and restored with new first floor entrances, windows and graphics, contextual with the historic nature of the façade, providing a continuing contribution to the community.
